Men's Waterproof Jackets

Men's and women's versions of the same jacket usually share their membrane, laminate and seam construction, and differ in pattern: shoulder width, torso length, sleeve length and hip shaping. That means the specification is mostly transferable, while fit notes are not.

What to check on a men's fit

  • Reach overhead in the size you would buy: if the hem lifts above your waist, the torso is too short for wet weather.
  • Check layering room over the midlayer you actually own, not over a t-shirt.
  • Confirm the hood turns with your head rather than your head turning inside the hood.
  • Sit down: a jacket that rides up at the front over a pack hipbelt will funnel water onto your legs.
