GORE-TEX vs FUTURELIGHT
These two platforms take opposite positions on the same problem. GORE-TEX seals the garment and certifies its construction; FUTURELIGHT allows air through the membrane so the garment vents while you move. Neither is simply better — they suit different weather and different output levels.

Which should you choose?
Recommendations by reader, not one overall verdict
If you stand still in cold wind
Choose GORE-TEX. Air permeability that helps on a climb works against you on an exposed summit or a chairlift.
If you move hard in cool, wet weather
Choose FUTURELIGHT. Passive venting reduces the clammy feeling that pit zips can only partly fix.
If you want one shell for many years
GORE-TEX has the wider selection of durable three-layer constructions and a certification process that covers the finished garment.
If you want published numbers to compare
Neither will satisfy you. Neither platform publishes comparable hydrostatic-head or MVTR figures, and we will not invent them.
